· Know that sound is a form of energy and describe how you can prove this because sound can move things
· Know that sound is made by vibrations
· Know that sound travels in waves
· Know that sound needs a medium such as a solid a liquid or a gas to travel through and that it cannot travel through a vacuum (A vacuum is completely empty
space)
· Be able to describe the bell jar experiment to prove that sound needs a medium to travel through
· Describe that sound being reflected is an echo
· Know that the speed of sound in air is 340m/s and that light can travel much faster
· Know that ultrasound is a very high pitch that humans cannot hear and that ultrasound is used to scan babies in the womb and find shoals of fish at sea
· To tell how far away lightening is multiply the time between the lightning and thunder by 340
· Sound is measured in n decibels and hearing protection is needed for sound above 85 decibels
